The bar chart compares the population who used the Internet in Sweden, the UK, Germany, France, and Spain in 2000, while the accompanying pie chart shows how much money in euros was spent on online shopping on average in the same year and countries. Overall, Sweden and the UK had relatively large proportions of the population using the Internet and higher average spending on online shopping, followed by Germany and France. However, the minority used the Internet in Spain, thereby having the lowest average spending on shopping on the Internet.

Among the five nations, Sweden had by far the highest percentage of people using the Internet in 2000, at 35%, followed by the UK and Germany, comprising 20% and 15%, respectively. The figure for France was even lower by 5%, whereas Spain recorded the smallest proportion of people making use of the Internet, at a mere 5%.

A similar ranking was observed in the average spending on online shopping. British and Swedish people typically allocated the largest amount of money to shopping on the Internet, accounting for 87 and 76 euros, respectively. People in France and Germany had significantly lower expenditures on average, with respective amounts of 57 and 46 euros. In contrast, Spanish peopleʼs average expenses for online shopping were virtually five times lower, constituting 10 euros.
