Task 1 Bar Chart: Weekly spending of an average family.
The graph below shows the weekly spending of an average family in a European country.
Band ~8 Sample:
Intro + Overview:
The bar chart illustrates how much, in percent, an average family spent every week in a particular European country in 1987 and 2007. Overall, the percentages of weekly spending on housing and transport saw dramatic increases, with both eventually accounting for the largest shares. However, notable drops were reported in expenditure on the remaining categories, except for ‘other goods & services’.
Main Body 1:
The proportion of weekly spending on housing and transport started at 15% and 11%, respectively. By 2007, both surpassed the other categories, constituting considerably higher figures: the former had more than doubled to 33%, while the latter experienced an almost threefold rise to 31%.
Main Body 2:
An opposite pattern was observed in spending on fuel/power, tobacco, and food, initially amounting to 18%, 7%, and 10%, respectively. Although expenditure on fuel/power declined negligibly by 3%, that on tobacco and food fell significantly by 5%. Among all categories, ‘other goods and services’ was the only one that remained unchanged, at 16%.
