Intro + Overview:
The line graph illustrates the number of people granted UK citizenship from 1962 to 2002, while the accompanying bar chart provides the regional origins of new citizens in 1996 and 2002. Overall, the number of people acquiring UK citizenship saw a dramatic increase, despite slight declines in between. Similarly, the number of newly naturilized citizens from all four regions, expect for Australia and others, grew substantially, with Asia accounting for the largest share.
Main Body 1:
In 1962, there were nearly 25,000 people granted UK citizenship. After fluctuating notably and constituting around 45,000 in 1996, the number of citizenships given had skyrocketed to approximately 120,000 by 2002, an almost tenfold rise compared to the initial year.
Main Body 2:
As for newly naturilized UK citizens, 19,000 initially originated from Asia, followed by Africa and Europe/America, at an identical 9,000. Over a six-year period, Asia became a more major source, including 50,000 of the newly naturilized UK citizens, and the figures for Africa and Europe/America also rose considerably, reaching 39,000 and 27,000, respectively. In contrast, Australia together with other regions was the only category that experienced a decrease, starting at 5,000 in 1996 and finishing at 4,000 in 2002.
