Intro + Overview:

The table compares Canada, Ukraine, Egypt, Rome, and Italy in terms of the proportion of seats held by women in parliament and management in 2000. Overall, the percentages of women-held seats in government in Canada, Egypt, and Italy were higher, whereas Ukraine and Rome recorded larger shares in management.

Main Body 1:

The largest proportions of seats held by women in parliament were in Canada (54%) and Egypt (52%), followed by Italy, at 40%. Despite such a high level of involvement in government, the shares of seats held by women in management were significantly smaller in these countries: while Canada and Egypt had an identical proportion of 36%, the figure for Italy was 11% lower.

Main Body 2:

An opposite pattern was observed in Ukraine and Rome. Unlike the other three countries, women accounted for smaller shares of parliamentarians in Ukraine (23%) and Rome (10%); yet they held larger proportions of managerial roles, at 40% and 52%, respectively.
